How is an MTI application built?

An MTI application is an iSeries programme object. It can be written in any language.

To keep it simple, and because it is in use most often, the functionality will be explained using the example of RPG.

Instead of transferring ring the data to a WORKSTN or PRINTER file the MTI programme transfers the data to an MTI function. This, in turn, transfers the data to the functions that create the desired target format.

Thus an MTI RPG programme is not considerably different from an RPG programme that creates a list. In most cases it is even considerably simpler because MTI deals with issues like formatting and overflow control.
